Aprilia Unveils RS 457: A Small-Displacement Sportbike with Track Performance

Aprilia has introduced the RS 457 as its newest sportbike, bridging the gap between the RS 125 and the popular RS 660 models. Designed to comply with European A2 license requirements, the RS 457 is targeted at the 300cc-500cc segment. Despite being a lightweight sportbike, Aprilia has prioritized track performance in the RS 457.

Powering the RS 457 is a 457cc parallel twin engine with a 270-degree crank, delivering 48 hp and 32 lb.-ft. of torque. Aprilia has carefully designed the bike to meet the power-to-weight ratio limit of the A2 license category. The engine offers strong low-end torque and a broad midrange, making it suitable for both track and street riding. The ride-by-wire system ensures a connected and intuitive response.

The RS 457 features a cast aluminum frame that is directly mounted to the engine, resulting in a compact, narrow, and lightweight bike. The chassis rigidity is tuned for track performance, providing sharp handling and a planted riding experience. The suspension consists of a 41mm inverted fork and a monoshock with preload adjustment, delivering a stable ride.

For braking, the RS 457 is equipped with a single 320mm rotor with a four-piston caliper at the front and a 220mm rotor with a dual-piston caliper at the rear. Aprilia has opted for a single-sided system to reduce the gyroscopic effect on the front wheel. The brake system offers a sharp response and consistent performance.

In terms of electronics, the RS 457 comes with ride modes, traction control, and ABS. It is equipped with a 5-inch TFT display that allows riders to make on-the-fly adjustments to ride modes and traction control settings.

Overall, the Aprilia RS 457 is a small-displacement sportbike that delivers impressive performance and capability. It is designed to meet the needs of riders with an A2 license, while still providing an exhilarating riding experience on both the track and the street.
