Aprilia Makes a Strong Comeback in India with the Launch of the 2024 RS 660 and Tuono 660

Aprilia India has made a comeback in the big bike market with the launch of its 2024 range of multi-cylinder engine bikes. The RS 660 supersport and the Tuono 660 naked bike are the highlights of this range. Both bikes feature a scaled-down appearance of their larger capacity counterparts, the RSV4 and the Tuono V4, with attractive Italian design elements.

The RS 660 and Tuono 660 share a 660cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine. The RS 660 has a higher state of tune, producing 100bhp at 10,500rpm, while the Tuono 660 produces 95bhp at the same rpm. Both engines are known for their torquey nature and satisfying midrange power delivery.

In terms of features, the RS 660 comes with a comprehensive list, including LED lights with cornering lamps, multiple ride modes, engine maps, cornering ABS, traction control, wheelie control, a quickshifter, and cruise control. The Tuono 660 has a smaller set of features, but still includes ride modes, traction control, cruise control, engine brake, and different map settings.

Underneath the bodywork, both bikes feature a dual beam aluminum frame, adjustable KYB 41mm front forks, and a monoshock rear suspension. The RS 660 has slightly longer front fork travel compared to the Tuono 660. Braking duties are handled by 320mm front discs and a 220mm rear disc.

The pricing of the RS 660 and Tuono 660 is on the higher side, with the RS 660 priced at Rs 17.74 lakh and the Tuono 660 priced at Rs 17.44 lakh, ex-showroom. These high prices are due to the bikes being imported as completely built units, attracting heavy taxes that are passed down to the customers. This puts the Aprilia bikes in direct competition with more powerful motorcycles like the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R, Triumph Street Triple RS, and Ducati Supersport 950, raising concerns about their market positioning.
