In Japan, Honda has released the CBR400R and NX400, two motorcycles that are not available in the rest of the world. This is due to the strict licensing regulations in Japan, where riders must be at least 18 years old to obtain a license for motorcycles with engine displacements larger than 400cc. However, riders as young as 16 years old can obtain a license for motorcycles up to 400cc, which is why Honda and other manufacturers produce smaller displacement models for the Japanese market.
The CBR400R and NX400 share similar styling and technology with their global counterparts but are powered by a 399cc liquid-cooled, fuel-injected parallel twin engine. Despite the smaller displacement, these bikes still deliver impressive performance, with 46 horsepower and 38 Nm of torque.
The NX400 features a retro-inspired design, departing from the angular bodywork of the CB500X and taking on a boxier look. It shares similarities with the Transalp XL750, particularly with its rally-inspired fairing. The NX400 is clearly focused on road riding, with its alloy wheels emphasizing its sporty nature.
The CBR400R, on the other hand, draws inspiration from its larger sibling, the CBR650R. It features a full fairing, split LED headlights, and an angular tank and tail section. Notably, the CBR400R has a more upright seating position compared to other small sportbikes, such as the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-4RR.
In terms of pricing and availability, these models are exclusive to the Japanese market. The CBR400R starts at 863,500 yen (approximately $5,742 USD), while the NX400 is priced at 891,000 yen (around $5,925 USD). Japanese enthusiasts have a range of color options to choose from, including racing-inspired livery and sleek matte finishes.
While it may be disappointing that these unique models are not available worldwide, it's important to recognize that different countries have their own regulations and preferences. Honda and other manufacturers cater to the specific needs and restrictions of each market. Nonetheless, riders outside of Japan can still appreciate the design and performance of these exclusive models from afar.
