Triumph has recently announced some exciting updates to its Tiger 1200 range, further refining its largest adventure models. The 2024 Tiger 1200 lineup will consist of four variants: the GT Pro, GT Explorer, Rally Pro, and Rally Explorer. While most regions will receive the same updates across all models, there are some variations for North America, making the situation a bit confusing.
In the United States, the updates will be applied to the Tiger 1200 GT Explorer and Rally Explorer, while the GT Pro and Rally Pro will remain unchanged from the 2023 models. However, in Canada, the opposite will occur, with the Pro models receiving updates and the Explorer variants remaining the same. Triumph has not provided a clear explanation for this discrepancy but has assured customers that it is looking into bringing the updated Rally Pro and GT Pro to the U.S. for the 2025 model year.
The Explorer models come with additional accessories compared to the Pro models and feature a larger 7.9-gallon fuel tank, whereas the Pro models are equipped with a 5.3-gallon tank. The GT Explorer is designed for more street-focused riding, featuring cast wheels (including a 19-inch front wheel), 7.8 inches of suspension travel, and an aluminum skid plate. On the other hand, the Rally Explorer is geared towards off-road adventures, with wire-spoked wheels (including a 21-inch front wheel), 8.7 inches of suspension travel, and a robust aluminum sump guard. The GT models also offer a higher footpeg position to enhance cornering ground clearance.
The updated models retain the 1,160cc Triple engine but now feature a new crankshaft, alternator rotor, and balancer to increase engine inertia. These enhancements aim to deliver a smoother-running engine with more precise torque delivery at lower revs. Triumph claims that the improved smoothness is most noticeable during acceleration, deceleration, and at low speeds. The engine output is rated at 148 hp at 9,000 rpm and 93 lb-ft of torque at 7,000 rpm. The clutch has also been updated for smoother engagement when shifting into first gear, and a longer clutch lever has been added to improve comfort during longer rides.
Rider comfort has been further improved with a redesigned seat that offers a flatter profile, providing riders with more space. The GT models feature an adjustable seat height ranging from 33.4 to 34.2 inches, while the Rally models have a slightly taller range of 34.4 to 35.2 inches. To address concerns about seat height, the Tiger models will come standard with Active Preload Reduction, allowing riders to lower the seat height by 0.78 inches at the press of a button when coming to a stop. Additionally, an accessory lower seat can reduce the height by an additional 0.78 inches.
The electronic systems remain unchanged from the 2023 models, including semi-active Showa suspension, a six-axis IMU, cruise control, cornering ABS, cornering traction control, and blind spot detection provided by a rear-facing radar unit. The GT Explorer offers five ride modes, while the Rally Explorer offers six. Heated grips and a tire pressure monitoring system are standard features on the Explorer models.
The 2024 Triumph Tiger 1200 GT Explorer is priced at $23,795 for the Sardonia White color option, $23,995 for Sapphire Black, and $24,120 for Carnival Red. The 2024 Tiger 1200 Rally Explorer starts at $24,895 for Jet Black, with the Matte Khaki Green and Matt Sandstorm colors priced at $25,220. These models are expected to arrive at dealerships in April, offering riders even more adventure and excitement on their journeys.
