Yamaha's MT-09 has long been a favorite among riders seeking an engaging and capable middleweight naked bike. For 2024, the Japanese manufacturer has refined this tried-and-true model, making several improvements that enhance its already impressive performance and riding dynamics.
At the heart of the MT-09 lies Yamaha's venerable 890cc CP3 inline-three engine. This potent powerplant has been further refined, now churning out a robust 107 horsepower. The engine's character remains a highlight, with ample torque and a smooth, responsive delivery that outclasses the competition.
Complementing the updated engine are revisions to the transmission and electronics. The six-speed gearbox now features optimized gear ratios for smoother, more precise shifting, while the quickshifter allows for seamless full-throttle upshifts and downshifts. Yamaha's advanced rider aids, including selectable power modes, traction control, and wheelie control, provide a customizable and confidence-inspiring riding experience.
The MT-09's ergonomics have also been thoughtfully refined, with a more rearward-swept and lower handlebar position for a sportier riding stance. The new linkage-type rear suspension and stiffer front fork further enhance the bike's agile and planted handling characteristics.
At $10,600, the 2024 Yamaha MT-09 represents excellent value in the middleweight naked bike segment. With its refined performance, improved ergonomics, and high-quality components, this bike delivers an engaging and well-rounded riding experience that will appeal to a wide range of enthusiasts.
