Kawasaki has unveiled the 2025 iteration of the W800 motorcycle in overseas markets. The bike features a striking new Metallic Diablo Black colour option that beautifully complements the model's modern-retro design.
The new colour scheme has a distinct dual-tone effect, with a gold-coloured pinstripe separating the different shades. This carefully executed detail adds to the W800's classic appeal. Further enhancing the retro aesthetic are the period-correct 'W' emblem on the fuel tank and the functional tank pads that allow the rider to grip the bike.
The Kawasaki W800 encapsulates the charm of modern-retro motorcycles, both in terms of its design and mechanical attributes. The round headlight, teardrop-shaped fuel tank, curved fenders, chrome engine casings and exhaust pipes, as well as the wire-spoke wheels, all evoke the nostalgia of motorcycles from a bygone era.
Powering the W800 is a 773cc, air-cooled parallel-twin engine that produces 52 bhp at 6,500 rpm and 62.9 Nm of torque at 4,800 rpm. This engine features a bevel gear shaft drive for the SOHC, 8-valve head, and a 360-degree crank, all of which contribute to the authentic retro motorcycle sound and feel. The engine is mated to a 5-speed gearbox.
The motorcycle's underpinnings include a double-cradle frame with a telescopic fork at the front and a pair of shock absorbers at the rear, providing suspension duties. The W800 rolls on a 19-inch front and 18-inch rear wheel setup, shod with tube-type tyres.
Compared to competitors like the Triumph Bonneville T100, the Kawasaki W800 stands out as a true retro motorcycle, with more modern features and a liquid-cooled engine. Kawasaki previously offered the W800 in the Indian market in 2020, but it is no longer available. The company should consider re-launching the model in India and heavily localising it to keep the pricing competitive, as the W800 offers a unique and charming retro-inspired experience.
