2024 Yamaha MT-09 SP: Upgraded Stylema Calipers and Enhanced Electronics

2024 Yamaha MT-09 SP: Upgraded Stylema Calipers and Enhanced Electronics

Yamaha has recently unveiled the 2024 Yamaha MT-09 SP, an upgraded version of the already popular MT-09 motorcycle. Building upon the improvements made to the regular model, the MT-09 SP boasts enhanced styling, improved ergonomics, and a host of other upgrades, including updated brakes and suspension.

One notable upgrade on the MT-09 SP is the addition of Brembo Stylema monoblock calipers, which provide lighter weight, increased rigidity, and improved braking control. These premium calipers, along with the Brembo radial master cylinder, elevate the bike's braking performance to new levels.

In terms of suspension, the 2024 MT-09 SP features a DLC-coated 41mm KYB fork with adjustable preload, rebound, and high- and low-speed compression damping. At the rear, it is equipped with a fully-adjustable Γ–hlins rear shock with a remote preload adjuster. These upgrades ensure a smooth and controlled ride, even in challenging conditions.

Under the hood, the MT-09 SP retains the powerful 890cc CP3 Triple engine found in the previous model. Yamaha has also reshaped the airbox to enhance the bike's acoustics, providing a more exhilarating riding experience. Additionally, the MT-09 SP offers four exclusive Track modes in addition to the Sport, Street, and Rain modes found on the regular MT-09. This allows riders to customize their riding experience to suit their preferences.

The 2024 MT-09 SP features a comprehensive six-axis IMU-based electronics package. This includes a four-mode traction control system, slide control system, front wheel lift control, and a two-mode brake control. Yamaha has also introduced new features for 2024, such as the back slip regulator (BSR) and a two-mode engine brake management system (EBM). The BSR helps stabilize the rear wheel during aggressive engine braking, while the EBM allows riders to adjust the engine braking for smoother corner entries. These electronic settings can be conveniently managed through the Yamaha Ride Control smartphone app or the updated switchgear.

In a first for Yamaha's MT models, the 2024 MT-09 SP comes equipped with a smart key system. This allows for remote starts and easy locking or unlocking of the fuel cap. The bike's aesthetics are further enhanced with an R1M-inspired Liquid Metal/Raven livery and a brushed finish on the aluminum swingarm.

While the upgrades on the MT-09 SP result in a slight increase in weight compared to the previous model, Yamaha ensures that the performance gains are well worth it. With a wet weight of 428 pounds, the MT-09 SP promises an exhilarating and dynamic ride.

The 2024 Yamaha MT-09 SP is set to arrive in U.S. dealerships in late spring 2024, with a starting price of $12,299. This highly anticipated motorcycle offers riders an enhanced experience with its upgraded features, improved performance, and stylish design.
