When it comes to beginner-friendly sportbikes, the Honda CBR500R has always stood out as a unique option. While other bikes like the Kawasaki Ninja 400 and Yamaha YZF-R3 typically steal the spotlight, the CBR500R offers plenty to love with its 500cc supersport-inspired design. Now, for the 2024 model-year, the CBR500R has received significant upgrades, making it better than ever before.

It's important to note that the CBR500R is not a true supersport but rather a sportbike that emulates the aggressive styling of Honda's CBR1000RR. The 2024 model further emphasizes this inspiration with new, dynamically styled bodywork reminiscent of its liter bike sibling. While the 2022 model-year update focused on the bike's brakes and suspension, the 2024 refresh primarily focuses on styling and technological enhancements.

One notable tech upgrade on the 2024 CBR500R is the addition of a five-inch TFT display. Easily accessible via switchgear on the left side handlebar, the display offers clear visibility and can be customized to the rider's preferences. Furthermore, Honda has introduced smartphone integration through its RoadSync app, allowing for automatic connection and enhanced adjustability and connectivity for riders.

In terms of performance, the CBR500R retains the proven 471cc, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected, parallel-twin engine with a 180-degree crankshaft. While criticized for lacking excitement in sound and character, the engine offers a smooth and linear power delivery, making it approachable for both beginner and intermediate riders. Honda claims that the updated PGM-FI technology improves efficiency and performance, while a silent cam chain and reduced friction elements contribute to smoother and quieter engine operation.

To enhance the bike's overall performance, Honda has equipped the CBR500R with HSTC (Honda Selectable Torque Control), which essentially functions as traction control. Additionally, a slipper clutch has been added to provide a more forgiving experience during downshifts, ensuring smoother and more controlled deceleration.

With its upgraded features and appealing design, the 2024 Honda CBR500R continues to be an attractive option for riders seeking a sporty yet beginner-friendly motorcycle. Whether it's the aggressive styling, technological advancements, or the approachable powerplant, the CBR500R offers a compelling package that stands out in its class.
