Upcoming Motorcycle Helmet Blessing Event in Fátima

Upcoming Motorcycle Helmet Blessing Event in Fátima

On September 22, Fátima will host the 9th Pilgrimage of the Blessing of Helmets, an event that draws tens of thousands of motorcyclists from across the region. The rector of the Sanctuary, Father Carlos Cabecinhas, describes this annual gathering as both a festive reunion and a significant occasion for prayer and reflection.

In recent years, the Blessing of Helmets has emerged as one of the major events at the Sanctuary, with approximately 160,000 participants attending last year. Father Cabecinhas emphasizes the importance of this pilgrimage as a time to reconnect with friends and seek divine protection for motorcyclists on the road.

Organized by various motorcycle clubs, including Grupo de Motoizadas As Mal Estimadas and Associação Motociclistas Esquadra Eclética das Forças Segurança, the event will kick off at 10:30 AM with a banner parade at the Basilica of the Holy Trinity, followed by a mass at 11:00 AM at the altar.

In addition to the blessings, there will be merchandise for sale, with proceeds benefiting a local cause. This year, funds raised will help purchase an adapted wheelchair for a 23-year-old resident of Peniche who became paraplegic after a motorcycle accident in 2021.

The Blessing of Helmets not only serves as a spiritual gathering but also fosters community support, making it a cherished tradition among motorcycle enthusiasts in Portugal.
