Yamaha FJR1300ES - The Sport Touring Benchmark

Yamaha FJR1300ES - The Sport Touring Benchmark

If you're familiar with sport touring motorcycles, the Yamaha FJR1300 needs no introduction. While the 2024 FJR1300ES, starting at $18,299, is an excellent example of a long-range sport tourer, the FJR1300 has been around in various forms for over 20 years, with the ES version available since 2018.

At the heart of the FJR1300ES is a liquid-cooled, 1,298cc inline four-cylinder engine with dual overhead cams, four valves per cylinder, and a 10.8:1 compression ratio. The engine features Yamaha's YCC-T fuel injection system and transistor-controlled ignition, paired with a six-speed transmission and shaft final drive. Despite its 642-pound curb weight, the FJR1300ES can squeeze 237 miles out of its 6.6-gallon fuel tank at an estimated 36 mpg.

Rider and passenger comfort are key priorities for the FJR1300ES, with adjustable features like a two-position seat, three-position handlebars, and an electronically adjustable windscreen. The bike also offers electronically adjustable suspension with four preload and three damping settings, allowing riders to fine-tune the setup for their preferences and riding conditions.

As a long-standing benchmark in the sport touring segment, the Yamaha FJR1300ES continues to impress with its blend of performance, comfort, and technology. For riders seeking a capable, long-distance machine that can tackle both twisty roads and highway miles, the FJR1300ES remains a top contender in the category.
